MANILA – Inihayag ng Malacañang nitong Miyerkules na ang pagsusuot ng face shield sa ibabaw ng face mask ay boluntaryo ngunit maaaring kailanganin ng mga komersyal na establisyimento at mga employer.
Ito ay ipinahayag ni Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles matapos sabihin ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte nitong Lunes na ang mga face shield ay nagbibigay ng karagdagang layer ng proteksyon laban sa coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) at mga bagong variant, tulad ng Omicron.
Gayunpaman, sinabi ni Duterte na ipauubaya niya sa Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) ang pagpapasya sa muling pagpapatupad ng patakaran sa paggamit ng face shield.
“Right now, the question is will there be any changes? I don’t know. Let’s wait. Kasi may Omicron, we will have to see where it goes. We will have to monitor developments. But right now, (the) status quo is voluntary siya,” sinabi ni Nograles sa isang panayam sa ANC’s Headstart.
Sa kasalukuyan, boluntaryo ang mga face shield sa mga lugar sa ilalim ng Alert Level 1 hanggang 3.
Sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng Alert Level 4, ang patakaran sa face shield ay ipinauubaya sa pagpapasya ng mga local government units (LGUs) at pribadong establisyimento.
Ang mandatory face shield policy ay nananatili sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng Alert Level 5 at sa mga lugar na closed, crowded, at kung saan posibleng mangyari ang close contact (3Cs), gaya ng mga ospital at iba pang pasilidad na medikal.
“Based on our latest IATF resolutions, employers and establishments may require face shields for the protection of customers, or their clientele, or their employees,” wika ni Nograles.
Habang wala pang desisyon ang IATF-EID sa patakaran sa paggamit ng face shields, pinaalalahanan niya ang publiko na kailangan pa rin ang face mask.
“Establishments may mandate it (face shields). But for sure (in) health care settings, it is mandated. Pero ‘yung face mask, mandated ‘yun,” idinagdag niya.
Ang Pilipinas ay wala pang natukoy na kaso ng bagong highly-mutated na Omicron variant ng coronavirus ngunit nagpatupad ng mas mahigpit na mga paghihigpit sa paglalakbay upang maiwasan ang pagpasok nito sa bansa.
Sa isang pagpupulong kasama ang National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 officials at medical experts sa Malacañang, hinimok ni Duterte ang IATF na “ayusin” ang muling pagpapatupad ng panuntunan sa face shield.
“I would suggest to the task force to make a statement – whether or not really to – ‘pag magdating itong Omicron na ‘to since we have a depth of data dito sa ano. In the meantime, it‘s prudence or just dictate (that) maybe we will restrict again,” wika ni Duterte.
Sa kabila ng banta ng Omicron variant ng Covid-19, sinabi ng World Health Organization (WHO) noong Martes na hindi mandatory ang paggamit ng mga face shield.
“The WHO has right along said that this virus is not airborne. It’s close-contact transmission and that is why we emphasize that what is important is the physical distancing, and face masking, and hand hygiene. If we can ensure that those minimal requirements, those minimal public health measures are complied (with), we can ensure that people don’t congregate in closed settings, the requirement for face shields, probably at this point in time is not mandatory. Because as I said, we are still looking and understanding the transmission dynamics of the Omicron variant,” sinabi ni WHO Country Representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe.
