Posible aniyang bumuo ng hiwalay na task force si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na mag-iimbestiga sa mga alegasyon ng katiwalian sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), pahayag ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque noong Oktubre 21.

Kinilala ni Roque ang pagbuo ng isang internal task force na layong paimbestigahan ang DPWH, subalit iginiit na gusto rin nitong magkaroon ng independent group mula sa executive department para magsagawa ng parehong imbestigasyon tungkol sa isyu.

“Many people doubt if it can succeed, because it’s the same people investigating one another, so we would prefer an independent body,” ani Roque.

Dagdag pa ni Roque, “It’s not inconceivable that another task force of the DPWH may be formed by the President, in the same way that he formed one for the PhilHealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corporation). But it really all depends on how this new task force will operate, if it is credible, if it can hold individuals accountable for their acts.”

Nilikha kamakailan ni DPWH Secretary Mark Villar ang Task Force Against Graft and Corruption na kinabibilangan ng limang opisyal na mag-iimbestiga sa kapwa executive at mga empleyado ng ahensya.

Kinilala ito ni Roque bilang “step towards the right direction,” habang idinidiin na dapat magtatag ang mga ahensya ng kanilang sariling mekasnismo para sa internal accountability.

Dinipensahan naman ni Duterte si Villar mula sa mga alegasyon at sinabing “masyado na itong mayaman” para maging kurap.
