MANILA – Inimbitahan ng European Union (EU) si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na bumisita sa Brussels at talakayin ang bilateral na relasyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng bloke.
Sa isang liham kay Marcos, ang Pangulo ng European Council na si Charles Michel, na hindi nakadalo sa inagurasyon, ay nagsabi: “I would, however, like to extend an invitation to you to come to Brussels at a mutually convenient time. We have much to discuss, from our bilateral relations, EU-Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) ties, and wider foreign policy issues, to our support for the rules-based international order”.
Sinabi ng delegasyon ng EU sa Maynila nitong Martes na ang imbitasyon ay personal ding ipinaabot ni EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Véron nang kinatawan niya sina Michel at European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sa presidential inauguration.
“The Philippines and the EU have common interests and values, which are a strong basis for a partnership, based on respect and mutual benefit and in pursuit of the effective implementation of the EU-Philippines Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA),” wika ni Véron.
Ang nasabing PCA ay nagsimula noong Marso 2018, na higit pang pinalawak ang matagal nang ugnayan ng dalawang magkasosyo sa usaping pampulitika, panlipunan, at pang-ekonomiya.
Samantala, nagpahayag din ng pag-asa ang EU na lalahok si Marcos sa darating na EU-Asean Commemorative Summit sa Brussels sa Disyembre 2022.
