MANILA – Ipinahayag ni Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones nitong Lunes na dapat ipagpatuloy ng papasok na pamunuan sa edukasyon, sa ilalim ni Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio, ang pagpupursige sa edukasyon para sa lahat ng mga mag-aaral.

Sa Laging Handa public briefing, binanggit ni Briones ang pamana ng administrasyong Duterte sa pagpapalawak ng mga oportunidad para sa mga mag-aaral sa ilalim ng Alternative Learning System at ng Last Mile Schools Program.

“This is truly expanded, the budget of the Department of Education became higher because this was given additional support by President (Rodrigo) Duterte, this alternative learning system. I presented this (in London), the alternative learning system and the second program, the Last Mile Schools Program – these are schools in far-flung areas, islands, mountains that are remote, very much lacking in facilities, etc,” sabi niya sa magkahalong English at Filipino.

Sinabi ni Briones na ang mga programang ito ay umaabot sa mga indibidwal na pinagkaitan ng edukasyon, anuman ang edad at distansya.

Aniya, handa na sila para sa maayos na transisyon kasama si Duterte-Carpio, na target ang Hunyo 20 hanggang 30 bilang nakatakdang turnover sa kani-kanilang mga transition team.

“I also need to have a one-on-one with VP Sara or incoming Secretary Sara, so she can be briefed on the different challenges and issues faced by the DepEd,” nabanggit niya.

Idinagdag ni Briones na handa silang ibigay ang kanilang medium-term na plano, na lubhang kinabibilangan ng learning digitization, na kailangan para sa “catch-up” ng bansa sa international setup.

“We are looking forward to a discussion of our medium-term plan, because our plans are three-year, six-year (plans). But we also have a plan up to the year 2030 and I am very, very sure that the incoming Secretary of Education is open-minded,” aniya.
