MANILA – Hinimok ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) na gumawa ng plano na magbibigay-daan sa mga kandidato sa 2022 local at national elections na magsagawa ng kahit limitadong in-person campaign.

“Kung papayagan nila tayo mag-assemble because you cannot campaign by just shouting at one corner. You have to have a place that – maybe they would limit the attendance and the number of people there,” sinabi ni Duterte sa kanyang lingguhang Talk to the People na ipinalabas noong Martes ng gabi.

Sinabi ni Duterte na hindi lahat ng kandidato ay kayang magbayad para sa mga political advertisement partikular na sa telebisyon.

“I’d like to remind the Comelec that you must give the candidates, really, the space and whatever modality there. Because there can never be an election without a campaign and other people cannot also afford – some candidates cannot afford the expense of [television] exposures,” wika niya.

Nauna nang binanggit ng Comelec ang “major shift” sa kampanya sa halalan sa gitna ng banta ng Covid-19 pandemic.

Pinaalalahanan ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez ang mga aspirante na mahigpit na sumunod sa health and safety protocols, partikular na sa pagdaraos ng political gatherings.

Ang mga kandidato na tumatangging sundin ang mga umiiral na pandemic protocol ay “naglalagay ng kanilang sariling mga tagasuporta sa panganib,” aniya.
