MANILA – Tinanggap ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang paghingi ng tawad ng World Bank sa ulat tungkol sa estado ng mag-aaral at mga kinalabasan sa pag-aaral sa Pilipinas noong Lunes, inaasahan na ang institusyong pampinansyal ay magpapahayag ng isang “mas tumpak” na ulat.
“Well, I would not want to begrudge World Bank. But itong mga international whatever bodies working on the problems of the world should be very careful in their statistics. It is not good to, you know, commit a wrong internationally. But good as any, we welcome their apology,” sinabi ni Duterte sa kanyang regular na Talk to the People.
Ang Department of Education (DepEd), ayon kay Duterte, ay gumagawa ng isang bagong hanay ng data na ipapadala sa institusyong pampinansyal sa lalong madaling panahon “upang maitama nila ang kanilang mga numero at mga input ng data”.
“I commend [DepEd] Secretary Leonor Briones for calling out the World Bank on this issue. I hope a more accurate report based on the latest data will be made,” pahayag ni Duterte.
Humingi ng paumanhin ang World Bank noong nakaraang linggo para sa pag-publish ng isang ulat na nagsisiwalat ng mababang pagganap ng mga mag-aaral na Pilipino bago magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang DepEd na magbigay ng puna.
Inilahad ni Duterte na maaaring naitama ng DepEd ang maling kuru-kuro at maglalabas ng mas tumpak na data hinggil sa pagganap ng edukasyon ng mga Pilipinong mag-aaral.
“On that note and for the sake of the transparency and policy direction, we would like to know the latest assessment matrix of student performance and achievement, as well as the latest national data and figures in terms of learning outcomes, especially during the pandemic, so we can identify which gaps need to be addressed,” sabi niya.
Samantala, sinabi ni Briones na hindi nararapat na ilagay ang lahat ng mga problema sa edukasyon sa administrasyon ni Duterte.
Si Briones ay tumutugon din sa kamakailan lamang na pahayag ni Bise Presidente Leni Robredo tungkol sa pangangailangan na ideklara ang isang krisis sa edukasyon.
“I don’t know who should judge whether we have a crisis in education or not. Let say we have a crisis, then where does the crisis in education come from, after 123 years, 47 secretaries of education, after seven secretaries of education who refuse to participate in the international assessment,” sabi niya.
