Makikipagpulong ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) sa Philippine National Police at mga local government units hinggil sa implementasyon ng kautusan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na arestuhin ang mga taong hindi magsusuot nang maayos ng kanilang face masks, ayon kay DILG Usec. Jonathan Malaya noong Huwebes.

Susubukan ng DILG na i-ayon ang utos ni Duterte sa kasalukuyang mga local ordinances na na may panuntunan ukol sa mask-wearing at karampatang kaparusahan sa mga lalabag nito, ani Malaya.

Sa ngayon, maaari lamang arestuhin kung mayroong “resistance to authority” at paglabag sa Revised Penal Code, dagdag pa ng opisyal.

Aniya, “But in light of the President’s pronouncements, we may need to do some recalibration and make the necessary preparations because if we do make arrests, we also need to prepare our detention cells because there may be a larger number of people detained than before.”

Nang tanungin tungkol sa kaligtasan ng nasabing protocol sa panahon ng pandemiya, kung saan ipinatutupad ang physical distancing, sinabi ng opisyal na: “That’s why we need to make the necessary coordination with the Philippine National Police and with the local government units so that we can safely and efficiently implement the directive of the president and make the necessary guidelines so that this will not be abused by our police authority.”

Ayon kay Malaya, magiging “premature” umano kung magkokomento siya tungkol sa wisdom ng direktiba ng Pangulo. Ang tanging magagawa ng DILG ay makipagpulong sa PNP at mga LGUs kung paano maisasakatuparan ang utos ni Duterte.
