Pormal na humiling ang Department of Education (DepEd) sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na taasan ang sahod at magbigay ng karagdagang benepisyo para sa teaching at non-teaching personnel na maglilingkod bilang poll workers sa 2022 elections.
Sa isang pahayag noong Huwebes, inihayag ng ahensya na nagpadala umano ng request letter si DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones kay Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas, kung saan nakasaad dito na nahaharap sa mas mataas na risk ang mga poll workers sa darating na halalan bunsod ng Covid-19 pandemic.
“We recognize that there is a need for a higher compensation for the teachers because the risk of the COVID-19 is still here,” ani Briones.
“We also made sure that the requested amount or rates prescribed are just and reasonable,” dagdag pa ng kalihim.
Nag-request ang DepEd ng P9,000 na sahod para sa chairperson ng electorial boards, habang P8,000 naman para sa mga miyembro ng board. Bukod dito, ang supervisors at miyembro ng support staff ay dapat umanong makatanggap ng P7,000 at P5,000.
Isinusulong din ng ahensya ang isang honorarium para sa piling mga miyembro ng Comelec-DepEd monitoring at coordination teams sa ilalim ng DepEd election task force, na layong siguraduhin na mabibigyan ng wastong impormasyon, technical, at legal assistance ang mga guro sa kanilang mga tungkulin sa halalan.
Sa ilalim ng panukala, ang authorized poll workers ay makatatanggap ng Covid-19 hazard pay na P500 kada araw. Ito ay bukod pa sa mga benepisyong nakapaloob sa Election Service Reform Act.
Ayon sa kagawaran, dapat din umanong ikonsidera ang pagtatayo ng onsite Covid-19 swab testing at iba pang health services sa kahabaan ng eleksyon; P1,000 na allowance para sa pagkain at tubig; at P2,000 na transportation allowance.
“The Comelec recognizes the invaluable role played by teachers in ensuring the success of elections,” sabi naman ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.
“Accordingly, the Comelec is willing to work with the DepEd in order to find ways to either accommodate their requests or, in the appropriate instances, to help them achieve the results they seek,” dagdag pa nito.
