Posibleng naisakatuparan na ang naging pangako ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipakain sa mga kurap na opisyal ang perang kanilang pinakaaasam-asam.

Ayon kay Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, mahigit 40 suspendidong opisyal at personnel mula sa Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang ipinatawag ng pangulo sa Malacañang noong Lunes para pangaralan.

“During the short meeting, he distributed pastillas to the BI personnel,” ani Guevarra.

Dagdag pa nito, “Money had been rolled inside each pastillas, according to the President. He wanted them to eat the pastillas, but did not insist ‘out of deference to the Secretary of Justice who was also present.’ He said, either you eat it or give it to the first beggar you see.”

“In the end, he stated that the cases had been filed and that they simply had to face them. No one among the BI personnel dared to utter a word. End of the meeting,” diin ni Guevarra.

Ayon sa kalihim, kasama rin umano sa ginanap na meeting sina Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Senador Bong Go, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, at NBI Director Eric Distor, na nasaksihan ang pangyayari.

44 na immigration personnel ang sinuspinde kamakailan dahil sa pagkakaugnay ng mga ito sa tinaguriang “pastillas” scheme.

Ang nasabing scheme, na naging usap-usapan noong Pebrero, ay nagpahintulot sa mga Chinese nationals na makapasok ng bansa kapalit ang panunuhol.

Ang nasabing operasyon ay binansagang  “pastillas” dahil ang pera ay itinatago sa nirolyong bond paper tulad ng pambalot sa pastillas.

Ayon naman kay Senador Risa Hontiveros, na nangunguna sa Senate investigation hinggil sa naturang modus, aabot umano sa ₱40 bilyon ang naging panunuhol dito.
